Cayman GTS

Hi all Piston Head Porsche people.

Just looking at getting into Porsche ownership and have seen a Cayman GTS both me and MRS Chippy likes.

Can anyone critique this car ?

Not sure what you want the forum to say ?

It's PDK for a start so rules it out for me, I also dislike that wheel design.

on the plus side it has buckets, but then imo that don't go with the PDK and it's £62k !

where you can buy a 7k miles car with buckets, manual, PCCB and imo the better wheel design for £47k all be it older
plus a deal in that car they have had it for ages.

any way the price of the £47k car shows you what the car you are looking at will be worth down the line in 2 years.

That's a nice spec, especially with the buckets. The GTS is going to hold it's money well, I would go for it. I had those wheels on mine, loved them.

I think the GTS is more special than an S and consequently will reflect positively in resale values. I'm with Mr D on this though in that those aren't the best looking wheels, and PDK is a personal choice.

That's a good 'comfort' spec GTS, which to me is what they're all about. If you want a more track/sportier option then the other linked above is a decent buy.

However, if you want a GTS then the one you've linked is nice. GTS interior really takes it up a notch, buckets are a nice extra, no PCCBs to worry about damaging, SPP, PCM, PASM, PDK etc. All good road car options. No phone prep is an omission, maybe the OPC can add it?

The price is top end, but GTSs were £60k+ when new with options, the one you're looking at was probably £64k-ish. It's not lost much, I'd haggle hard and see what you can get it for.

Yes - ignore anyone who insists their preferences are a must and everything else is rubbish. Any Boxster/Cayman is a great car, when buying a used car options are a combination of must haves and nice to haves, it's up to you to decide which options you really want. Most decent spec cars have the most common options such as PCM, Heated Seats, PDK, Digital Radio, Mobile Prep, Park Assist, Auto Climate, and a sound upgrade. Other options worthwhile in my opinion are PASM, PSE, Leather interior and Cruise. I've probably missed something but you get the idea. Good luck - and you will LOVE the Cayman.

Aside from the buckets, obviously. Everything else is good road car stuff, and if the phone prep can be added then even better.

Indeed.

"Comfort Spec" to me, means a Merc S class. Anything else is about the driving surely, so why not make it a car for driving?

PDK is an anathema in this kind of car, as far as I'm concerned; it removes the driver involvement but doesn't replicate a proper racing box (which would be pointless on a car with number plates anyway).

Personally, my £60k would (did) go on a proper driver's Porsche, but then again, everyone's different.

Take the seats out of it and it is a comfort spec car. By and large I agree with Porsche911R.

The car looks fine though, if it ticks most of your boxes go for it.

we are all different with buckets I would also want PTV and X73 so as you can see we are all different, however the GTS is a cracking piece of kit so if you buy it enjoy

Most people here on PH want what I would call track-spec or drivers GTSs - X73 suspension, manual, buckets, minimal options etc.

Most buyers in the outside world want a luxury spec GTS - BOSE, leather, PCM, PDK, auto wipers, electric mirrors etc.

Neither is right or wrong, and there are grey areas in the middle (which is where mine sits). You pays your money and takes your choice!

SPP and PASM are standard equipment.

Re Bucket seats. Bare in mind that they don't height adjust and make access a bit more difficult. Probably not a big issue for tall people, but if you are short I'd recommend trying to get out with the seat in your normal driving position AND with the door NOT fully open. (There will be plenty of occasions when you can't fully open the doors). And check you are happy with the visibility.

I also notice that it doesn't have climate - the standard ac isn't climate. I don't see mobile phone preparation either - which, if true might a big issue to you.

Bose and Burmeister are the only audio options available. Yes, X73 can be substituted for PASM, but I'm not sure why you have mentioned it.

No they're not - CDR+ and Sound Package Plus is an option as I specced it on mine at a cost!

I mentioned X73 vs PASM as X73 is an option that some may not want so it's worth checking the spec for.
