Recently upgraded my Nikon and always like having a battery grip. Not just for the increased battery capacity but also I find it increases stability especially with a speed light on the shoe.

Recently went into enquire about a Nikon grip, couldn't believe the shop was selling them new for £259.

I know there are a lot of after market ones, some seem to be as good quality if not better than the original.

Any aftermarket brands I should be looking at?

I have Nikon and aftermarket photix ones - negligible difference!

There was a recent thread about Meike battery grips here:

On the basis of this I took a punt on one and although it's not had a great deal of usage so far it does seem to be ok for the money.

Pleased with the Meike on my Nikon D810 - seems to be pretty sturdy. I have no doubt that the genuine Nikon grip is better quality, but I doubt it's ten times better, despite it being ten times the price

My D300 came with an aftermarket one. I don't have it on all the time but have never had any issues with it.
