Insomnia and me
Discussion
About 15 years ago I started a job working 12 hour shifts, 5 in the morning until 5 pm. This meant getting up at 4am which meant if I wanted anywhere a nights sleep I was having to go to bed at 9pm. I never managed to get more than 3-4 hours sleep a night and left the job after two years. This has affected my sleep pattern ever since. I find I go to bed between 10 and 11, drop off quickly but wake up again after 4 hours. I stay awake for 4 hours, either lying in bed or get up, then I go back to bed/ sleep for another couple of hours. The next day I feel dreadful. The last month or so I haven't been able to get to sleep for hours, sometimes not at all.
Last year for some unknown reason I decided to start drinking lots of water. I have found drinking 4-6 pints a day, one just before bed makes me sleep properly. Okay, I wake up for a pee in the night but I'm straight back off again after. During the winter my water consumption dropped and my insomnia has returned to the point where I couldn't function, memory loss, dazed etc so I decided to start drinking again. It's a miracle, I drank 5 pints one day, that night and since I have been sleeping really well.
Anyone have any idea why I should need to drink such an uncomfortable amount of water in order to sleep? So, anyone not sleeping dry water, might not work, might be the answer. I get people saying "you must get up weeing all the time". Yes I do but I'm back to sleep in seconds, much better than being awake for four hours a night.

Whatever works to reduce your insomnia is worth continuing IMO.
I massively increased my water consumption about a year ago to around 4.5L per day. I find concentrating at work easier, no headaches, metabolism is faster, sleep better, the list goes on. No negative effects other than very regular trips to the toilet.

Don't knock it until you've tried it. Works for me.

Really interesting.I can't believe the sleeping problems I've had for the past 15+ years have all been cured by a glass or two of water. Why has no one told me about this? I'm even napping in the afternoon like a proper old git now
