O/H asked for a smoothie maker for her birthday. Now she has one she's threatening to buy every fruit and veg known to man. Before she does so, any suggestions for great tasting smoothies?

Good tip for you, from experience - you probably won't use it half as often as you think. Keep an eye out for 'reduced' fruit on your supermarket trips, things that are at the end of their shelf life (particularly berries). Split them out into smaller portions in freezer bags, and whack them in the freezer until you're ready to use.

This means that you're not wasting fresh fruit (fancies of using it daily) and have fruit on-hand to use when you need.

I've also found that lobbing a few ice cubes into smoothies can give a much different consistency, and make up for not having chilled fruit.

Or buy frozen fruit. It's picked at its ripest, and it much cheaper than fresh fruit, and you don't have to throw loads of ice in to make it cold.

2 shots of Barcardi
3/4 shot lime juice
1/2 shot sugar syrup
Handful of ripe strawberries
Good scoop of ice.

Blend the wotsits out of it - Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri lick

Well, I didn't mention that because I thought it would be a fairly obvious suggestion. I've not found frozen fruit (of which I buy a fair amount - mango particularly) to be significantly cheaper than fresh. However, I'm always sure to load the freezer up if I see fresh, super-ripe fruit on offer.
