Has Porsche said anything about the lifecycle of the new 718?
If it's a mid-term facelift of the 981, does that mean it will be replaced by a new model in 3 or so years time, or since the changes are pretty major (new engine, body panels etc), is this the start of a full new lifecycle?

The new model won't be out until MY 2021, so the 718 will be sold for 5 instead of the expected 3 years.

Reasons are fairly obvious — new engines cost higher development costs than for a regular facelift, sports cars are in low demand compared to SUVs and EVs, the next platform needs a major and very expensive redesign with a carbon fibre monocoque to transition into a viable hybrid/EV, etc.

and I also read about it in Sport Auto.

A 2 cylinder 500cc turbo coupled to an electric motor is very possible....

Why don't they just save the R&D costs and source their engines from Qualcast!

You mean a bit like the i8 - just the odd cylinder less since the Porsche's half the price?

At least it'll sound something like a flat six.
