I've recently been scanning some slides taken by my late father in law and there were a few of Heathrow Airport (I think) and thought they maybe be of interest to someone. The slides are dated October 1963 so were taken sometime before that.

And yet, if you repainted any of those aircraft with modern liveries, the vast majority of people wouldn't even know they were 60 years old

Yeah, ditto, have a real thing for old aviation photos, Manchester, being a local being my favourite, a day out was a quick bus ride to hand round the terminal and generally get in the way.

Thanks for the comments.

The pictures really show a different type of air travel to that experienced today.

Apart from the fuel farm (in distance of first photo) the south side is pretty much devoid of anything back then......very different to now!!

Great shots... smile

Also, technically, it wasn't Heathrow Airport in 1963, it was still London Airport wink

These would have been taken from the viewing area on the then not long opened Oceanic Terminal (later to be named Terminal 3).

Thanks for that, I've been trying to figure out where in the airport they were taken from.

Just a couple more.

These were scanned at a lower resolution but I will get around to doing them properly.

Nice atmospheric pics. Did your old man have his right leg shorter than the left? The horizons all seem to be leaning a bit to Starboard. hehe

Are you sure you've got your right left, port starboard the right way around, they in the majority seem to be rolling to port to me.....

Sorry, I meant the photographer was leaning to starboard. Having Berkshire leaning to starboard would be madness... hehe

Can you repost them without watermarks? They are interesting, but you are never going to be able to sell them (at least for more than a pittance) and the watermark detracts from the photos.

Quite good forward planning there. Not many aircraft, but plenty of space for future expansion
