Missing years National Insurance - for the Mrs
Discussion
Given the Mrs has been off work for 5 odd years bringing up the children and thus not paying in National Insurance I'm aware that there is a rule whereby you can pay in for missing years of National Insurance contributions up to the last 6 years.
I'd like SWMBO to get a full state pension and currently it's unclear when/if she will go back to work (bringing up a family and getting pretty involved with local charities is a passion for her and we are fortunate that so far it's affordable - with the kids both our parents sacrificed one parents salary to bring up the kids so we are doing the same).
For myself I've not got that many years left before I've the full qualifying number of years so a tick in the box for myself.
What is the cost of buying years and is it financially smart to do so?/payback. Of course who knows what the rules may or may not be but all we have is what the rules are currently. I like the idea of an extra layer of security within a monthly payment.
Also currently not paying into her pension - clearly 0% income tax rate and zero employers contribution so possibly the state pension is the better option.
Then again is it better pumping whatever that amount is into the ISA which we can control.

You don't even need to pay, but why start a thread - it takes more effort than Googling...?

Thanks - it appears that up until 12yo youngest child then the govt will pay.
At last some of my taxes coming back.
