unlikely but... Does anyone know this car?
Discussion
Evening all - SO i'm about to make the decision on a 2007 Cayman 2.7.
Went for a test drive today (Around inner Sheffield so not a full-on blast unfortunately)
SO, as unlikely as it is, does anyone know this car?
It's previous owner was in Southport.
Seems good, a few minor gripes (quite worn brake disks, a couple of bubbling stone-chips on the bonnet) but all-in-all a good car.
The seller (trader) said it gives a puff of smoke on start after sitting for a while and that this is normal, is it?

I had a cayman a few years ago, and I seem to remember occasional white smoke on start up. I always think the best thing to if there is any doubt is to get a pre purchase inspection from a specialist because that few hundred quid could save you a lot more in the long run if the car did turn out to be a dud.
My 2.9 gives smoke if I've left it for a week in the garage but it disperses very quickly. I can't say I've noticed any during normal running. I put it down to oil draining when it's left for some time. I'd be concerned over smoke clouds every start up or continually, but not after a week of not running.

Mine does it every now and then on start up if it's been left for a while or occasionally if it's started to move it out the garage and then stopped immediately afterwards and then re-started again to put it back in the garage I.e it's only had the engine running a minute and then started again..
No problems with mine at all....
It's just something they do occasionally.

Some smoke after sitting for a while (multiple days) is normal because the oil runs slowly runs down, collects in the horizontal cylinders and burns on start up.
Most 356s, 911s, Boxsters and Caymans do that. It should really only be one puff of blue smoke right after firing it up, any more than that is not normal. Get a PPI/111 check done to be safe.
