OK, so I almost changed the HT leads at the weekend...
One bank of leads is currently running round the back of the inlet manifold to the coil, the other bank is running through the tiny gap between the inlet manifold and the head. Not so much of a problem as I could just cut those leads and run the new ones round the back.
However...
The 4.2 leads from Magnecor are too short to run round the back and both sides will have to go under the inlet manifold to reach the coil.
Well done TVR and Magnecor, you've really thought things through this time.
Do I want to start taking the inlet manifolds off? If I start i'm getting into serious "this is going to take longer than a few hours and I may not be able to get it working again" territory.
Oh, and while i had the air box off, I noticed that the breather mesh was in a pretty grotty state and could do with replacing, stupid question, but is it just wire wool? I certainly looks like it.

I replaced mine ('97 4.2) with some Magnecor ones from ACT without any real dramas (apart from the lack of working space for cylinders 7&8).
All my leads go from the coil packs round the back of the engine and then down each side.
Being catious I replaced each lead in turn, removing the orginal and comparing it to the new one to make sure it would fit.
Silly question, but its not an RV8 set you've got? The lead lengths for those would be quite different.

Simon, did you go for the 8mm or 8.5mm ones?

sounds like you have the 4.5 versions there ..
I always fit the 4.5 versions anyway to both 4.5s and 4.2s as it keeps them as far from the exhausts as possible, but as you say you have to lift the inlets to fit them.
the std 4.2 leasd go round the back of eth heads and can drop onto the exhausts if not careful. magnecor doa direct replacement for these which are easier to fit aboviously as the manifolds stay in place.

well, that sounds more promising.
How much do I need to dismantle to lift the inlets? I tried the two bolts on the top and that didn't give me any movement, so I'm assuming its those, plus the row of bolts below that, and the bolts on the bottom of the manifold?
I'm not going to disturb the fuel rail or injectors or anything by doing that am I?
you need to lift the fuel rail, disconnect teh throttle x link, romve the airboxes, remove hte two bolts you found on the top and hte row od 6 bolts onto the head .. when yuo refit you have to rebalance the airflows cos the manifolds never go back in the same place! doh.
if you're doing it at home it's much better to fit the 4.2 long lead version. I keep 4.2 versions in stock for mail order only..
