Got to wonder what else could have been achieved in those 25 billion hours! Cure for Cancer, unlimited clean energy source, interstellar travel.

That's implying that people who play CoD are intelligent and can contribute! hehe

Same could be said of any other leisure activity, though. Just think how many hours have been spent on advancing human development by people watching sports over the years. We'll get our cures and our interstellar travel, but in the meantime let's have some leisure time.

I think gaming is a huge tribute to our inventiveness. Star Citizen looks crazy good and must be incredibly complex. And besides, the PS3 has helped fold proteins for furthering our fight against cancer!

However, I'm still glad I can send my legions of British Barbarians against the unwashed masses in Rome 2.

COD4 Overgrown map in the pic - best FPS and game ever made imho. Wasted far too many years of my life playing that and I don't regret one minute of it! The rest of the COD series can GTFO. yes

I wonder how many billion hours have been wasted moving blocks of pixels around in Minecraft? hehe Ummm.. guilty of that one too! getmecoat

But what if these were research scientists in their downtime? There are probably hundreds of thousands of people playing, some will be kids (despite the age warning?) and others will be very intelligent and educated people who prefer to play than go out. There are probably more man hours wasted on Facebook or even PH.

Over the years I wonder how many aeons people have spent reading fictional literature, probably far more than the sensationalist figure in the OP.

We're not robots, humans procrastinate.

/edit rough fag packet calculation puts lord of the rings at 3.9 billion hours on its own.

Forgetting the human element, I wonder how much processing power has been wasted? What could we have done with that?

I have to say, I contributed a fair chunk of those man hours. Mostly stuck in the corner of a room with my claymores planted & grenade launcher in hand. yes

Yeah, but the development of that processing power has been massively pushed along by the rise of video games.

Every day the 6 billion people on earth exist for a combined 144 billion hours so all things considered it's not as startling as it sounds. I bet the combined time spent having a dump easily outstrips time spend on video games. It's hardly a waste of human resources when you look at it like that.
