Sadolin or Sikkens??

OK, so it is time to repaint the exterior windows and doors. Last time I let the painter supply the paint which was a mistake. He used Little Green and it really wasn't very good. It deteriorated quite quickly, especially where it is south facing and it has cracked, peeled and faded quite badly. North facing isn't too bad but the rest is pretty poor.

I've done a bit of research and it seems that Sikkens Rubbol Satura Plus seems to be the paint to use with the appropriate Sikkens primer. However, I went into the local Brewers yesterday and he told me that Sadolin Superdec was the one to go for, although he couldn't really tell me why.

After doing a bit more research, it does seem that the Sadolin is a pretty low build paint which I think is going to mean three coats minimum, especially as we are doing a colour change. The only benefit is that it is quite a bit cheaper than the Sikkens.

To be honest, I'm not really bothered about cost, I just want it to be durable and last longer than a couple of summers before needing to touch up. There are 19 windows and 6 doors to do so I want to get this right!

Has anyone got experience of using both or an opinion on which one would be best?

Crumbs, mine is only three years in and it is totally knackered. If I got 5 I'd be happy.......!

Just done ours in Teknos system, which is meant to be the danglers...

Sadolin Superdec is water based.
Not bad stuff, but you've got to be confident using it or it'll look a mess.

Sikkens Rubbol is, in my view, the best, and what I use to paint my exterior with.

As with all paints, piss poor prep creates piss poor performance.

Think I'm going for my first choice then which is the Sikkens. I'll come back in 5 years and report how it's getting on!

Sadolin superdec is excellent IMO. It lasts well in a coastal location, covers excellently. Used it at work to paint badly installed cladding on 176 houses, most of which are exposed to high humidity weather. (Bodmin)

Not quite on your scale , but we’ve used it on various outbuildings (garden shed, workshop, summerhouse etc) and it’s been excellent. Easy to apply, last really well (5 years before it needed a fresh coat).
