DECT Phone + CallerID + Telewest?
Discussion
After extensive googling I still cannot find an answer to this, so thought you lot might be able to...?
I'm after a new phone as my current one (BT Diverse 3110) although almost perfect in every way, isn't supported by the (bellcore) telewest caller id system. I cannot believe the difficulty I'm having trying to meet my really simple requirements:
1. Caller id that works on Telewest
2. 100 name/number phone book (at least!). 10 numbers is pathetic!
3. answer phone (nice but not essential)
4. excellent build quality. I don't want it to feel like 2p was spent on its manufacturer.
5. good speech quality (obvious one really)
6. purchasable as a single - I only need one!
I've narrowed this down (after looking in almost all of the obvious high-street shops who are amazingly unhelpful) to the BT Lyric 2500, BUT I cannot find a straight answer as to if this works with Telewest's caller id. Anyone know?
If not, any alternatives (Philips 617 possibly?). No Panasonic's please.
Help REALLY appreciated!

Ok, suprisingly enough the BT phone you have was designed and specified to work initially with BT lines and their carrier technologies (which was manufactured under license by Siemens, who I used to work for).
Telewest uses the 'other' type of CID (caller information display) technology. I have both BT and Telewest lines (and three broadband connections from ADSL and Cable modems ) in the house. My Telewest CID is handled by home automation software that reads out the number before I asnwer it and tells me who it is if they are 'known'.
I am also using 'Doro' Dect Cordless Phones (triple pack) and they work perfectly with Telewest and come with thousands of features like:
3 Inter-changeable fascias
Digital answering machine
2 Phonebooks
CLI
Handsfree handset
GAP compatible
20 Dial memories
5 Redial memories
10 Hours Talktime
3 Ringer melodies
Call transfer
7 Mins Recording time
Memo recording
Answering on/off
Day/time stamp
Delete all/ selected messages
Skip and repeat messages
Remote access
Also uses Maplins replaceable battery packs (which I havent needed in three years)
Cheap!
..and they work with Telewest and BT.

Forgot to add these phones are tiny - 100mm x 45mm x 20mm and they are very tough and light.

For what it's worth, I've got a BT Relate SMS and that works ok with Telewest CallerID
I bought it as my separate CLI unit didnt seem to work on Telewest, but when I plugged it in, the phone didnt work either. Phoned Telewest and they found that while my account had got CLI enabled, the line itself hadn't. They did something and both devices started working.
