Electrics are really not my thing. Can anyone advise me on how to test the boot opening switch. Are both wires going into the block connector live , with the mounting plate being earth. Or live and earth into the block connector.
Cheers

If the mounting plate is fixed to the fibreglass I'd go for the wires being live and earth wink

It looks like an ordinary solenoid (= electromagnet, = a big coil) blue is earth and red is live.
I can tell by the other thing connected which is a DIODE.

You can connect one wire to battery and just 'flick' the other wire to other battery terminal.
Don't leave it connected as coil will get VERY hot quite quickly.

The tiny thing is a diode, which stops an electrical spike being fed back into the car (it's what coils do when power disconnected, same idea as the spark plug coil, just not as big ....), and a diode only works only one way round ....

Guessing this has been retro fitted as it is not like any I have seen in my cars ...

I have used these before for the button type book opening system. I use a piece of bike brake cable with screw on nipples.

Many thanks for the replies. Now tested and working well , yes I have the square push button switch on the door post, and as Chris mentioned the solenoid switch is attached to the boot catch with a pushbike brake cable with screw on nipples.

A normal central locking motor works just as well, someone's been to RS for that one. A DL motor would probably have been cheaper!
