Reading the local free rag, it seems that The Home Office has earmarked £800k for a six month 'trial scheme' to pursue "voluntary assisted returns" to Afghani refugee folk.
Now if the info in said rag is accurate, they will be given £2500 each to return; apparently, the political situation now having 'stabilized' back in Afghanistan.
Beverley Hughes, Home Office Minister, apparently stated that this is significantly cheaper than supporting them whilst claims are considered and then forcibly repatriating if said claim fails. One cannot argue with the logic of this.
Hmmm.
The only marginally less slimey Olivus Letwinarum from the Tory ranks, countered this initiative by claiming that this should not be necessary since the (asylum) structure should be working 'properly' in the first place. He pronounced the current system as being one of chaos.
I read that £2500 is roughly equivalent to 34 years' salary in Afghanistan. Blimey.

But let me kickstart this thread by asking a question of you good people. Assume you had a salary of £30k in the UK. If Mullah Omar offered you just over a million quid in return for a mammoth and not risk-less quest to the Eastern plains, would it not be worth uprooting and having a snifter?
I'd like to say that if I WERE an Afghani, right now, hearing this information, I'd be dusting down the kaftan pronto.

More like dusting down the AK47 , interesting point you are making , my guess is that most of the Afghanis who are over here know or suspect that the whole peace thing is just a prelude to the same ol same ol that has blighted this country for the last ,,, well err very long time , what is it something like 2000 years of in fighting , it is a very backward land and the people "seem" to enjoy this situation .
As soon as the yanks are out it will go off again in a big way , well thats my guess .

In answer to your question, Derestrictor, Mullah Omar can shove his million quid right up his arse. Though I bet there'd be some takers - those of a mindset suitable for something like the military or oil rig working.
As from this £2500 bung to feck-offsky, I think it's a great idea - it's expedient, pragmatic, fiscally sound and the offer should be extended immediately to all muslim immigramts in this country. Take it or leave it, but don't come scrounging off my welfare system if you stay.
Of course this idea of giving people a repatriation allowance is not new - and it's frowned upon by some because IIRC in a broader context it was the idea of the BNP, who proposed a £50k repatriation allowance. Who cares? Let's do it.

Actually Derestricter mate, you'd be surprised at how much some of these guys actually make. Coupled with the fact that some of them are actually in here illegally and with no recognition of their existence. I currently have an Afghani refugee in one of our apartments and he has got himself locked in there good and proper. The flat was let to someone else who moved on and left the keys with him. We moved last year to evict the tenant for non-payment. Get eviction ordre after 4 months and then a further 2 months wait for a bailiff (city of london!!). Consequently it became clear that it was this guy staying there, and not the tenant. So, back to court to show him as the respondant and he uses legal aid to defend. He claims he has been paying rent in cash but never got a receipt!!(FFS). Anyway, court says we have to have a full hearing and are now awaiting a trial date. All that while he lives in our flat for free. 2 months since judge ordered a hearing and even if what he says were true, he would be behind on rent now for over 4 months according to his lies. That alone should get him evicted in any other borough, but city of london shitty f***ing ahhh!
Anyway, basically, these guys (including a lot of the Eastern block immigrants) do not play to the same rules (nor do the same rules apply to them) as the rest of us and as a result can make some handsome profits. £2500 is more like a months salary to some of these guys here, why would they leave? You get supported by the Government with money and housing, so I think only very few would actually think it worthwhile to leave. Very few!!!

I know this doesn't answer the question of HOW to analyse the genuine versus bogus claimants but in response to that charge, a question. How do other countries, like the USA, handle this issue?

Have you thought of deliberately contaminating the flat with some horrible vermin like creatures that breed within hours, much the same effect that farmers have when invaded by our travelling friends. I have seen on more than one occasion, the invaded farmer on receipt of the information that he has unwelcome guests, go to the head honch and tell them they are welcome to stay but in two hours time he is going to spray all the fields surrounding the campsite with the best and newest cow/pig/human effluent he can find.
Two hours later turns up with said spreader and starts to deliver loud revs from the Massey Ferguson whilst waving a cheery goodbye to those that do not want to be contaminated by his efforts to regenerate the fertility of his land.
Perhaps you could find something similar to replace the problem you have in the flat. It would probably be a lot cheaper to evict said horrible pests via Rentokill afterwards than remove the curent pests through the courts. (And Quicker)

Just repatriate any Afgan applying for asylam - there country is now safe - the religious nutters are screwed and cannot harm any body any more.
I am not racist just very very nationalist - We are bending over backwards to facilitate imigrants to the detriment of our own population - a newspaper last week stated the the estimate is 250,000 imigrants a year WTF - Why should the population of the UK ( whether they be white, black Chineese asian etc ) have to shoulder the cost of these parasites coming into our country and being housed and fed etc when we have problems enough of our own. We went to the flat and while there was no one there changed the locks. Our reasoning being that he did not have a contract and should not be there. Anyway, the council contacted us and told us that they are considering criminal proceedings against those who evicted him! 3 of us at the flat all claimed that we didn't know who opened the door and claimed to find it like that, assuming that the offender had left of his own accord. Anyway, they said they were going to find evidence against us (CCTV) and consider criminal and civil proceedings against us. I search legal archives and under the Protection from Eviction Act 1977 and other acts he could claim compensation, and that in other cases they have lost the property to the tenant!! Anyway, he breaks into the flat with some other Afghanis and kick out the person we had placed there to keep it occupied. They actually beat him such that he had blood coming down his face. We arrive to find Police were there already. The Police inform us that it is a civil matter and that under s6 of Criminal Law act he can use reasonable force to reinstate himself. Go to the courts was what we were told. And we were also advised to leave our property as we would otherwise be arrested because there were 6 of us and were a threat!!
So that didn't work! I feel very exhausted by it all and must say that if it was on a mortgage we would be f***ed by now! The monthly rent is £1,250 and we are around 15 months or so out of pocket. They push you till you feel like giving up, its like

We set up reconnaissance on him for a couple of days and he basically has 3 Russian girls with him, who bring different guys back with them. No prizes for guessing whats going on there. He must be making it like he was printed the notes himself. Can't harrass him at all as the council are ready to move on us! Can you believe it? Wait till he gets out though.

On a serious note, if you have evidence that he is running a brothel, then you can use several methods to get him arrested. Once this has been done then his status as an illegal will be uncovered and he should be dealt with by immigration.
1) Keeping a disorderly house - Common Law
Indictment only and unlimited sentence
( This is the brothel offence but there must be more than one prostitute. Full sexual acts do not have to take place or even be offered. There needs to be proof that the house is 'open' ie to customers. that it is unregulated by the restraints of morality and that it is run in a way that violates law and good order)
2)Living off immoral earnings Sect 5 Sexual offences Act 1967. Arrestable 7 years Imprisonment
3) Procuring prostitiution Sect 22 & 23 Sexual offences Act 1956. Arrestable offence.
(this means the woman has been conned or intimidated or persuaded by any means into acts of prostitution and in any part of the world)
4)Sect 25 Sexual offences Act 1956 ( Permitting Girls to use premises if under 13 years) Arrestable offence, Indictment only and Life Imprisonment.
Sect 26 is the same but 2 years Imprisonment if girl under 16. Not arrestable.

I don't think he is now here illegally. I think he has claimed refugee status for the last few years and is given an indefinite visa. He gave a few copies of bank statements to prove cash withdrawals to the court to prove payment to us. Funny thing is none of the payments match what he claims to be the agreed monthly rent (what the previous tenant was paying). He only submitted certain months that he picked out and claims that he was always several thousand pounds in credit? It is clearly a bullshit story but you have to go through the whole process to get the result, and even then the courts are like a lottery.
He was claiming incapacity benefit and they have been informed of his "other" income. He receives large sums of money into his account every month. We have informe d the police but they need more evidence and to be honest can't really be arsed. I just want him out. If I could only get details of his his family in Afghanistan, it must be so cheap out there! Don't know if I could be such a bastard though. Would love to have a one on one with him.
