£40 SJ4000 "Go Pro style" camera. I get around 50 minutes recording on a 32Gb card so a 64Gb would be sufficient. It can plug straight into the 12v power socket via the USB cable so if used in the car the battery life doesn't matter. I get around 45 minutes just on battery.

I have yet to hear a video that captures the exhaust sounds properly (especially the bass rumble)

Hi Mark, the SJ4000 uses the same mounts as a Go pro so I bought a generic suction mount off flea similar to the one below. I just stuck it to the back bumper. I'll be honest and say that I did attach a boot lace to it and threaded it into the boot just incase the suction let go but it hasn't so far and it's had some abuse.

Cheers.

I don't bother in the car but for bike rides I have a GoPro 3 Black and a Dogcam/Sony bullet camera with separate recorder. The recorder saves to compact flash cards but in a proprietary format so you have to convert it back to MP4 or WMV or whatever. It's an identical setup as used by one of the track schools a few years back (according to Dogcam) and it's pretty good in that you can poke the bullet cam into places you can't get a GoPro, fit different lenses to alter the field of view, change the focal point etc. - you can also set it to start recording on power-up (e.g. ignition feed) or if it detects motion (I've used it to capture foxes crapping on the lawn at 4AM biggrin).

But mostly I use the GoPro biggrin

I've only ever used the built-in mic which is pretty good. If you go on Youtube/TVR/KeithKnight there's a few videos there from the car both 350i and 390SE so you can hear the quality as is. Cheers.
