I'm hoping someone on here has had the issues I currently have and maybe able to advise.

I've recently purchased a PS4 and can only run it off wifi as where the virgin media comes in is the other side of the house. Next to the router my iPhone gets 160mbps (over a 5ghz wifi) move to where the ps4 is and that's dropped to 96mbps.

Now the PS4 only has 2ghz wifi but is only receiving 2mb download if I'm lucky (I did get 20mb last week) now I know the best option is wired but I can't do that.

I'm guessing someone will suggest power line adopters? Although the nearest plug socket is actually an extension block mounted to the wall and I'm doubtful that the position of the router and the position of the console are on the same circuit.

any suggestions or suggested products?

I don't get why powerline adapters won't work? My router, powerline adapter and ps4 are all on separate extensions and all connect fine. Maybe a WiFi range booster plug? Never used one so I can't say how good they are however.

I'll give it a go then. I'd read that it had to be direct to the socket and not through an extension and that they had to be on the same loop

Powerline / wired connection is the way to go if you can.

I'm in the loft with my PS4, the router etc is on the first floor.

WiFi speeds were around 8 up / 1 down, wired through the powerline I'm now seeing 40 up / 8 down.

But they're into wall sockets not extensions, and on the same ring main.

Definitely worth trying though.

I was always told too that the powerline adaptors only work if plugged directly into a wall socket and not an extension lead, so never bought one to try it out as I don't have a lot of plug sockets and so everything uses an extension

I've heard the same. Possible to route a long Ethernet cable to the PS4 maybe?

Powerline adaptors may work through an extension, but the speed won't be as good. Similarly your house wiring might not be suitable for it, our house struggled to get anywhere near decent speeds using them.

The PS4's Wifi is pretty terrible, I wouldn't suggest using it for any form of competitive gaming, and it's much slower when downloading.

I was really shocked it didn't offer 5ghz wifi especially considering I have the refreshed version.

Sadly a long cable is out of the question so I'll have to try power line adapters and hope for the best.

Can you use a wifi extender next to the PS4 and then hard wire to that? Don't know if that would make any difference for you.

Airport express ... configure it in bridge mode (join a wireless network not extend) and then plug ethernet into your ps4 one side into the express on the other. Basically the PS4 thinks its wired and the you get the proper 5ghz setup from the airport.

Interesting that might be the next step.

I picked up a TP Link power line adapter and that has increased me from a few mb to 12mb!!!!! shoot Yet on wifi I'm getting around 70mb on my other devices sat next to the PS4 and wifi downstairs in the house is 154mb.
