Anyone know N659 JMR?

Hi Went to the the chim today.

Was nice however got a few questions. It has all the stamps in the book. Had it's last service last May. (only done 4000miles since). It had a flat battery and was started but my MGF ;o). Sounded nice, no misfiring. Wheels were a little curbed. Body was not A1 had stone chips and a repair on the offside. Had been keyed.

I checked the frame behind the front wheels was a little dirty but no rust. There was a tear in the rear windscreen.

Got picks if anyone is interested.

Now for the questions.

- I thought the door handles where meant to be under the wing mirrors, however there were round buttons near the door. Is this an early one?

- It was a 95N. What is the book on this? it's got 50k on the clock and full TVR history.

- How much does it cost to fix the rear screen?

- Finally, the car didn't have MOT, should I ask the current owner to get it first?

Mirror buttons came from 97 onwards
Rear screen is about £150ish
To be honest from what you've said, unless your getting it for a real bargain price I'd steer clear and look elsewhere. Theres a lot available for sale at the moment in far better condition then what you describe and if you get a dog your bank balance will go into melt down.
Try the classifieds on here for some further examples, if your after a good one but are not too fussed about age then I believe PH member Shnozz has a very good one for sale. Not seen it but heard a lot about it from these forums.
What budget do you have?

That offside repair might be hiding chassis damage.

Steer clear, check the classifeds. Also, leave yourself a couple of grand in an 'emergency fund' should the need arise.

The repair was actually as a result of the car having been keyed at a football match.

I really want it!!!! However I know that it needs a little tidying up.

My advice would be to go for something else, really doesn't sound as good as you otherwise could get.
Theres a nice red 95 Chim for sale in the classifieds for 12995, 12k may get that if you bargain hard enough.
Failing that find Shnozz's profile in the member search and send him an e-mail to see if his is still for sale.
Theres been so many good things written about his car. I don't know him, have no connection to him but from what I've heard would be very interested in seeing his car....

oh, and mine needs no tidying up. Chassis, bodywork, hood, interior etc are all A1. I am continuing to regularly use it at the moment and its perfect, starts first time and everything works as it should.

First car I looked at was in similar (possibly worse) condition, and I really wanted that. I'm glad I came here, because within a day or two I was pointed in the direction of a real belter, cheaper too (from the PH classifieds).

Don't go out and buy that car without seriously considering the others in the classifieds here. You may well end up regretting it, to the tune of several thousands of pounds.

I Think its a fair price, not really a proper "bargain". Afterall you could buy a same year Non CatD 400 for the same money.

I agree, but bearing in mind you could probably knock 'x' amount off after haggling and the fact its a 5.0 does make it a little tempting providing its had a good documented repair. I also think its very hard to find a 97 4.0 for less than 12k, especially with such low mileage, though I will probably now be corrected by many whos bargaining skills are far better than mine..

They are indeed quite hard to find, but they are about once in a while.. the thing is, no-one is going to admit to buying a Chimaera very cheaply on here as it would get dragged up when they tried to sell the car later on.

I remember at the tail end of last summer someone trying to sell a Chim on here for £12k, when they'd bought it off PH Classifieds for £10.5k some six months previously..(and not done anything to it)

Just want to clear a few things up on this as I'm now selling it. I work with Dave and as he's going off to the USA so I've taken it on.
1. it was just keyed not CATd the scratch has been repaired.
2. it didn't start as it's been in our work garage for ages not being run as Dave's been prepairing for the move so it's been neglected.
3. This really is a nice clean car, you all seem to have assumed it's a dog but it really isn't from the questions it sounds far worse than it is especially when you know all the facts.... I'm sure you'll all say I'm biased though.... which I guess I am but hand on hart this is a good one...
