I wonder if someone can put a photo to show 'anti - dive tubes' these are angled link tubes between horizontal and upright tubes in the centre section of the chassis.
Could be a good thing to look at for cracks. If there are cracks is it possible to weld without lifting the Chassis.

Hi Alan do you mean the diagonal bracing tubes?

This is a good side view:



I have welded cracks without raising the tub - mainly you find them around the diff. If you can get to it - weld it. Keep a squeezy bottle of water handy for the occasional small fire.

yes, i think it's the diagonal tubes can have cracks.
It's nice to know if i buy a 350i and there are cracks there's a chance to weld. Of course with caution and someone alongside fire watchingshout

Hi mate...I had a crack on one of the rear tubes near the diff...Apparently this is the second time its been welded as i found it had been done before going by the paperwork from a previous owner.

I still need to remove the sills to check to see if i still have outriggers or swiss cheese ..
