Hi all

Got a trackday at Bedford coming up in my Westfield. I've been there before with no noise issues, but I like to be on the safe (quiet) side.

I'll have no problem with the static test, my question - Can angling the tail pipe up/down/left/right or whatever ave any effect on the drive by measurement?

I dont want to get caught out by the 1 strike policy!

Yes,

Widely implemented at the recent Silverstone 24h by a lot of teams, you just need to find out where the noise meters are (usually pit wall) so don't hug the pitwall and angle exhaust away or if you can't angle it down.

At Bedford, they will tell you where the noise meters are, so a gentle lift as you go by will have virtually no effect on your lap (times!) and keep you well within the limits = sorted!

The meters are very obvious, on the GT circuit there are 3 of them. Just lift off and you'll be fine.

Last time I was there in Feb, I passed static and as I went to leave the Marshal said "I'll get you later for drive by"

The drive by meters are well back from the track, in three locations, tall and surrounded by sandbags IIRC.
Use the sighting laps to sight them! The only one that bothered me is halfway down a short straight between two left hand bends, near the alternative pits, just where I would be in max revs in 3rd, so I just went up a gear before passing it.

My TVR struggles with the 101db static, but has never failed the 87.5 db drive by. Hope this helps.
