Hi all,

Is there anyone in the north of England who could possibly lend me an ECU and 5AS for a standard S1?

I have a strange fault where the engine is overfuelling really badly when warmed up and its sucking air (and oil)out of the breather on the cam cover.

The idle is all over the place aswell and it just won't settle down.

I know the timing is ok and it starts straight away every time so I'm pretty sure there's no iginition problem.

I have checked all the sensors and wiring and they are all operating within normal ranges.

I can't see any cause other than a faulty ECU so I would very much appreciate it if someone has one lying around that I could borrow to confirm this before I fork out for an Emerald.

Many thanks in advance

Dan

Dan,

Did your sensor check include the Lambda?

A faulty one can result in over fueling - so can a small exhaust leak?

Just a thought and you've probably checked it.

Hope you manage to sort it.

Cheers Dun.

Yeah I checked the lambda sensor. I checked it while running and the readings were somewhere close to where they should be. Its not overfuelling by just a little bit tho. Its just chucking loads and loads too much fuel in. Even on idle!

Dan, if you can wait until later this week I can pull my ECU off and pop up with it.

Whats involved in doing this? I know that I will have to remove the bootbag to get to it, but is it just a case of un-plugging the loom and un-bolting the ECU fixings?

Let me know either way. I'm back from my travels on Wed's afternoon so I could get it to you for Wed's evening if required.

Hi Paul,

That would be great but I believe you have to swap both the ECU and the 5AS security module which is mounted behind the dash. Wouldn't really want to be pulling your car to bits too much unless you really didn't mind.

Give me a call when you're back.

Thanks again.

Hi Dan

so the 5AS module is the immobiliser thing I guess?
I will give you a call sometime on Weds when I'm driving back from Scotland. I'm sure I could manage to remove the bits you require, anyway I will give you a call on Wed's

Yeah its the immobiliser thingy.

I'll drive over to your's and help you remove the parts if you want as I have done it before so it'll probably be quicker and easier.

Regards

djroadboy, if your engine is pulling oil through the breather system you almost cirtainly have a mechanical problem rather than ecu/management problem..
