Strange - I always find the hill up out after Langdale End heading that way to be worse. But you look at the figures on Strava and Bickley is way bigger. I reckon its because you more or less have a clear view up of where you are going with Bickley Gate - then there is that little ''flat'' bit two thirds up where fatties that grind up get a half rest before the gradient kicks back in again.
Not been up since Xmas - and there is now even more weight to pull up. Used to do it every night on way home from work - going back 25 years. On first recent attempt after years off I found an old couple (70's) on their relaxed tourers making good headway and felt ashamed that I was making hard work of it, even though I passed them.
