I was supposed to do the IOW Randonee today as I did last year and a few times before. I've had bit of a cough and didn't feel up to it today so had a bit of a ride round the Forest instead. I did about 25 miles off road and whilst I felt ok to start but by the time I got home I was frozen and completely knackered. I'm only 55 is my cycling career over or should I man-up and ride more?

Probably just an off day. It can be surprising how a cold/virus can take the wind out of your sails.

You will bounce back.

If you don't then yeah too old, take up lawn bowls

I'm 36 and I get days where I think "why am I bloody doing this".

I know of people in their 70s who are much faster than I will probably ever be (but then I'm a lazy git). 55 is not old.

I got absolutely rinsed by a 72 year old chap a few weeks back, he looked just like uncle Albert.

Turned out he was idaho's over 55's road champ or something similar , What an fantastic, impressive, cool old fella he was.

Cycling really is the ultimate leveller .

I got overtaken in Richmond Park a few years ago by a guy that was 75 minimum. He was on a single speed. I was working pretty hard.

Turns out old guys who are made of gristle and shoe leather, who have nothing to do all day but ride bikes as I try to fund their pensions can be pretty handy.

bd. hehe

OP - Off day, feel better, get back on.
