Hi Guys and gals.

I wear prescription glasses for work. Bought two good pairs in January with this scratch resistant coating but it seems as though it's not strong enough as my 4 month old glasses are both scratched to fk.

What do you professionals wear on for work? Got to look tidy and not like I've got my face in front of a lathe all day.

Don't want to go down the route of contacts.

When I had this problem the lenses (some years ago now) were plastic from one of the high street retaillers. When I changed prescription I changed to glass lenses and I no longer had the problem. I seem to remember having to shop aroung a bit, and may have ended up in Vision Express but don't quote me.

1st post! I'm a bit of a lurker!

Most opticians will be able to order you in some glass lenses if the person who you're talking to knows their stuff (the lenses will cost more), but they will probably try and discourage you as even though glass is very scratch+heat resistant it has poor impact resistance and glass breaks in to sharp shards rather than the less jagged safer pieces produced by plastic.

So glass isn't great in car accidents etc

My safety glasses have polycarbonate lenses and they're still going strong after 20 years.

I spend a lot of time on site as a project manager. Cleaning ones specs makes the biggest difference in my experience. Never wiping dry is a good start. Often I will have to run them under a tap with a smear of washing up liquid before drying on a clean hankie, never paper.

Cleaning specs correctly is probably a sub thread in the detailing room.

We get prescription safety glasses, that look like your typical wrap-around safety specs but with clip-in inserts. The outside can get scratched but you can always swap the inserts into a new pair.
