Outlook - email management
Discussion
I have opened a new email account, purely for business purposes. I have a notebok PC and a desktop, both using MS Outlook.
What I want to know is:
Would it be possible to configure both PCs to share this email account so if I am out of the office, I can access my email over the notebook (assuming desk PC is switched off - so only one PC on a time) - then synchronise the two PCs when I get home so that all sent/inbox email is replicated and accessible on both machines? In this way, I always have the most current email wherever I am, plus it is backed up on the other machine.
Hope this makes sense!
TIA

in outlook you can set it to leave a copy of the emails on the server for a set amount of days, after that time it is deleted, to do this go to tools, email accounts, then select the account you want to do this to, click change and then go to the advanced tab and click, leave a copy of messages on the server and then you can click delete after x days, this is highly recommended because your isp might get a bit shirty when your space on the server gets to silly size
As ^^^^ said, you can leave the messages on the server but some pop servers only allow 10Mb or so of emails so you would have to synch them fairly regularly and wipe them off the server. This will cause problems if you delete messages and get them out of sync as it won't update the other machine automatically.
You can set up an IMAP4 email account for this kind of thing. This will keep all messages on the server and allow you to access it from numerous places. When you remove an email from one machine, it is removed from the server and will dissapear from the others. I use this and look at my email from my laptop, desktop, phone and web interface. I have a Bigfoot account which is $19 per quater and has 2Gb server space. The only problem is the lack of synching of contacts and tasks.

I meddled with Windows offline files feature to get it to work with Outlook data files (along with My Documents, Favourites etc).
Sync laptop before leaving, sync again on return. Can be a bit slow if your outlook files get large but this can be mitigated by using an archive file which you manually sync after any changes.

Theres some info here
http://blogs.msdn.com/jonathanh/archive/2004/05/02/124900.aspx
which includes a link that describes changing offline files to work with outlook here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=252509
Alternatively, theres some nifty looking apps on this page
www.slipstick.com/outlook/sync.htm
which I'm going to take a look at. My outlook file is 300mb with a 1gb archive so offline files tends to struggle a bit!
