So I might have reached gadget critical mass - and something is interfering with something.

I recently bought some bluetooth headphones, they're the bone conduction ones so its like having the radio on in the car (before anyone moans) - my commute to work is 35 miles each way so it takes a while and gets a bit dull in silence.

I've had a very damaged ankle so haven't ridden at all for the last seven weeks, today was my first ride to work. When i've tested the headphones at home they work great - i get some dropout if I walk too far away from my phone as you might expect but i'm happy they are working properly. When I'm on the bike - whenever I coast, I get interference and and drop out.

Bike is Ultegra Di2 - I have D-Fly so I get signals to my Garmin 810, am also using a stages power meter and have a heart rate strap on - do I have too many signals? seems odd that its just when I coast - i spent 2 hours riding it this morning so had time to check and it does seem to be the cause - I can pedal / hear, coast - get drop out.

Any thoughts?

Stop coasting?

I'm not an expert in wireless transmission, but as both Ant+ and BT use 2.4GHz I'd guess you're getting interference somewhere. Why it stops when you coast is interesting, I'd expect more interference whilst pedalling as more data would be generated.

Might be worth trying combinations of devices, turn something off and try again.

Stages paired to my Garmin.

I might have found the problem - I forgot to put my heart rate monitor on for the return leg, pedalled home and everything was fine.............as it was at work came in this morning without it too and no problems - will report back after using it for the return journey tonight.

That's a chunky commute even though it's a bit flat... kudos given!

I have a similar distance and more climbing, but I'm not typically doing it both ways every day and just started in the last few weeks. I'd not thought of having a radio, but might give it a go one day. I'm not running any telemetry at all so interference hasn't been a problem, I just record rides using the strava app on my phone.

If you can bear not having live data on your garmin could you try swapping devices one by one to connect to the phone instead so you have the same amount of digital chat but a different profile to see what makes the difference. Assuming HR off permanently wasn't your ideal outcome.

I'm surprised its the heart rate monitor, I'm not a doctor but I would hope that your heart keeps beating when you stop pedalling!
