as per the title, interested in looking at an early q5, thinking of the 3.0 TDI model.

read some horror stories about transmission failures, and I've had personal experience in the past of Audi's poor approach to warranty claims, etc. Just wanted to check what the consensus is on reliability of these cars as they're getting older ?

Any views appreciated.

Thx

My wife has a 2.0 TDi 170PS manual .. it's a nice car, we've only had it 11 months though and in that time it's had an EGR/DPF replacement, nearside front wheel bearing replacement (to pass the MOT) and the Turbo imploded leaving us stranded on the slip road of a dual carriageway. It's only done 25K miles (2012 plate). Oh, and it's also got the dodgy emissions cheating engine.

Reliable, no.

Audi warranty however has been spot on, we've had all the work done FOC, a courtesy car provided and the service centre has, most of the time, been excellent in keeping us informed of what's going on.

I pushed for (and got) an extra years roadside assistance and top level warranty from them FOC too, given the unreliability of the car in it's short period with us. It's no MOT'd, serviced and has good warranty cover so hopefully will be trouble free for the foreseeable.

The 3.0 is clearly a different engine, but I have heard that wheel bearing issues are quite common. I would assume it'll be heavy on front discs/pads as it's quite a heavy car with a big diesel lump up front.

Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated.

Makes me reluctant to buy a non-warranted car!
