Wasted A few hours hours in garage tonight

Had the dash top of at the weekend to sort the Rev counter, and finally got it working for the fist time since installing the coil packs.

Checking over the car tonight for MOT on Saturday, and noticed that the dials weren't illuminating when the lights were on. Think this is an MOT requirement for the speedo, so took the dash off again and spend a couple of hours checking all the wiring behind the clocks, fuses etc. with out succes. So gave up for the night.

Just sat down to watch the champions league highlights and suddenly remembered the button under the dash. Back out to the garage, pressed the button and clocks illumated.

Can't believe I forgot about this button, bit just assumed I'd messed something up when fixing the tacho.

We should have a badge made for this with 'forgot about the button' written on it. Sell them for a quid each and retire early

^^^^^^^^ after four years of ownership I got in the car tother day and no dash lights,,,, panic,,,, wtf have I done,, 2 mins of worry then relief as I remembered the stupid button. Why even have it at all really.

For the newbie owners out there there's a button under the dash just by your left knee similar to the boot opener on the right,, that turns the dash lights off.

Mine has been permanently wired in the 'on' position (as said, why would you want them off?) and the redundant button rewired for cooling fan override. Much more useful!

The only (good) reason I can think for the button is when you want to park and leave the sidelights on. Turning off the dash lights must save quite a lot of watts given the number of dials etc.
