MPG F10 M5 vs GTR
Discussion
I have owned both - a 2011 GTR for 18 months and an F10 for 2 years. MPG was not materially different - slightly better for me on the M5 but not to an extent where it would impact a buying decision.
Many other factors which are much more important in choosing between the two, but I guess you have judged those.

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I have thought about additional costs for servicing and warranty (as M5 is leased). Plan is to put away around £200 a month to go towards the extra expense. The reason I mention fuel is that dropping from around 21 mpg to say 15 mpg is over £100 a month extra. Although not substantial, it is worth factoring into the monthly cost of the car. It is good to know that you found them to be pretty similar.

Likewise have owned both & the F10 M5 is noticeably better but that of course depends how both are driven. Although on paper the differences are likely low single figures, what I noticed from the off is the M5 does respond very well in the cruise so a more relaxed longer cruise can be enjoyed, in the GT-R I was more often wringing it's neck so this had a negative impact on fuel consumption.
Also the in town fuel consumption with the M5 is far better. I'd say I push my M5 hard & includes some track work yet the average over 10k miles is around 25mpg, over the same period in the GT-R this was around 18-19mpg.

No problem, are you looking at the MY2017 GTR? My issue with my 2011 was the noise inside - ok for a quick blast but very tedious travelling any distance and wanting to have conversations with others in the car. I sold my E60 M5 for the GTR and regretted it pretty quickly. The GTR was great but is a bit of a one-trick pony (IMHO of course!) BUT - I understand the new models are more refined which would address my major concerns.
Good luck

Great points & the exact same reason I sold mine after 12mths.Good luck
Mine was an SVM 650r & although blisteringly quick, it became tedious when just needing to drive to work &/or longer journeys, also was only marginally quicker on track than my M5 but then my M5 isn't standard either.
Personally the M5 offers up real world 90% of the GT-R's performance but is 100% better at everything else.
I am probably looking at a 2012 or 2013 which has already got a stage 4 upgrade. It is just one of the cars on a list to consider ranging from a Evora 400, to an Rs7, to a 991.1 s to a Granturismo and others.
The thing is, I want straight line pace, noticeable looks (i am a bit bored of the understated looks of the M5), need a minimum 2+2 seats, good sound, a more "chuckable" responsive car than the M5, and for it to feel "special".
To get all of these things (minus the seating), I think I'd need something well above my budget such as Huracan! So I need to do the sums, test drive them all and figure out what is most important.
I am not due to change until the beginning of 2017, but that doesn't stop me looking!

I get about 20mpg out of my '59 plate GTR, but the only mod is a Y-pipe (I suspect full stage 1 coming shortly).
Most of my driving is A-roads - so 56mph with bursts of heavy acceleration.
Stage 4+ will obviously be worse on fuel but better on smiles!
I had an E92 M3 before and the only thing I really miss is the stereo. Honestly the stereo in my 1-series is better than the GTR one. It's shocking. (And I only really listen to radio 4...
)
It's more noisy than the M3 by a long way but part of the reason I wanted to change was that for cruising the M3 just didn't sound special so I can't really complain now!
If I had my time again though I would get that one in the classifieds at £45k with 34k miles, the SVM 650r and upgraded stereo. Not sure if it is still there.
