I know its a difficult one to answer and I ask from a position of complete ignorance so apologies to anyone involved who might be offended!!

I really need new glasses. I only wear them for driving but I find my eyes really tired doing close up work or watching telly so eye test planned for a couple of weeks time,

Question is whether to just go to boots or specsavers et all or an independent. Obviously there are bad independents but as a general rule are they better than chains. Bit like Kwikfit and a decent garage?

An eye test is more like an MOT, it should be pretty much the same result anywhere. Take your prescription and buy online, you'll save loads.

I've been to Specsavers and also to an independent. Specsavers seem very capable and have the frames I prefer, I've never had an issues with their service. The independent used older equipment, also seemed capable but didn't have my preferred frames.

Also depends what you want your high street to look like in the future and whether you want chain everything interrupted by charity shops.

I have no allegiance BTW but I notice that people are cottoning on to the impact of their choices. We now a butcher after many years without one.
