Mind they don't eat the poor bugger, and I don't mean your wife! Seriously good luck, I wish you well and enjoy!

If it's only a 3 year placement will you be able to bring it back? Six months quarantine is an expensive proposition.

Just had a read, and it seems though the criteria is strict, if you follow the process before return, no quarantine anymore.

Costs would be covered by the company for all that type of stuff (if I go)

Dull soulless city in the desert full of shallow people that worship money or . . . Rio?

I wouldn't even think about it.

The only possible advantage Dubai might have is that it's easy to get to the uk from but then your wife and dog will leave you for the summer or worse for ever and you'll end up living in some hotel bar and drinking with expats that have been abandoned by their wives and dogs too.

Brazil is in crash mode right now, so I would look carefully at what support you get locally before deciding. Amazing place and generally lovely people (awful traffic). Infrastructure is awful and no money right now to improve.

Given the choice, I'd go Dubai right now but it's pretty soulless, but has other options for escapes.

Neither are brilliant right now.

Brazil will always be Brazil, and the Cariocas in particular are seemingly immune to strife.

If anything, OP might get lucky and be paid a fair chunk of 'hazard' pay to be gallivanting around Ipanema. My ex-FiL stumbled into that very situation back in the day, when Rio was seen as a bit of a hole, and along with his fellow expats was very keen to perpetuate that myth to their respective company boards while living the life of Riley. He reckons it was the greatest scam in the history of the world.

Lol, sounds great. I would indeed get hazard pay. Financially it would be good for me, it would be a promotion, hazard pay, travel lumps sums, house and associated bills paid for. The house package alone would be saving me £1400 a month (running costs of house at home).

Oh, and an extra 2 weeks annual leave.
