Good job I used paintshop then

I think the "hamburger" style are a bit too errr but perhaps a straight circular stop/tail and circular indicator is better.

I quite like them - they're better than the escort lights by a mile.

Looks good to me. A definate improvement over the original escort units. Well done for having the guts to try something different.

Doh! I meant trying something different in terms of the looks of the car rather than doing it yourself... soz!

Thanks for the feedback so far folks.

I'll come clean, I used Microsoft Photo Editor!

But I'd very much like to re-style the rear before the re-spray later this year (hopefully).

I think maybe have a plain indicator (same size) on the outsides and stop/tail next to it (inboard) and then perhaps a fog on the offside and a reverse on the nearside (nearest the numberplate).

So, the same as the photo but with, oh no use waffling about it here you go....

They are a bit bright but imagine them toned down a bit (due to flash photo used to snap the image of the light unit)

Uhhm, not bad

...well I'd be thinking Maserati rear myself.. as done on the later TVR's too. IMO the back of the S Series would lend itself very nicely to it.

..just a thought

Which one ...the spyder?

They all appear to have large modern clusters, actually a bit like the Skoda range

I think it looks good. A definite improvement over the hamburgers.

Rear light mods are fairly high up on my list as they are just too Ford.

I am also looking for inspiration at the front as the S1 looks a little thin from the front and needs a fuller front spoiler with fogs to beef it up a little.

Perhaps I will follow the lead and have a play with Paintshop!!

Hi Steve,

I entirely agree, although the later S had a more Chimera looking front and IMHO looks much tidier and rounded.

The S1 and S2 lower section is rather too square and at odds with the rounded styling of the body above. TVR had a nice design with the S, save for a couple of aspects but they did improve the overall shape on later S models.

I'm considering buying a badly damaged late bonnet and grafting the lower section onto my S2 standard bonnet at some point.

Well I went ahead and done it without photoshop. Used a grinder and fibreglass. Shocking feeling, taking a grinder to a perfectly good car. Not finished yet. Still the badges to go on, TVR on the right and V6 on the left. Plus some more pollishing. Centre lights have LED surround brake lights. Maybe change the two inner lights to two reverse instead of fog and reverse

Well done Tony, that looks great, nice job you've made of the paintwork too. I'm guessing that you must have done a bit of bodywork before?

I don't suppose you fancy doing another one, do you?

I'm sorry Kentish....

I've seen your various posts ref: Rear of the S......

Why do you look at the rear of the S and Lambast it...?

Even with the Escort lights, the cut off rear is what PW intended for the car, the shape, the design, call it what you will...It was intended (and cheap)

The snoop nose, the MINI headlights, the vent in the bonnet are all characteristics which make the S the individual car that it is...

Why do you think the rear lights are so BAD....??

Because they came from a Ford Escort...?

If that is the case...

What about our V6 engine......
Front indicators......
Dash switches......
Wing mirrors......
Headlights.....Etc Etc Etc

I get this sort of talk from work collegues and pi$$ taking mates... 'Your car is made up from a parts bin etc etc' 'Its a Ford with a plastic shell' 'I bet the AA has seen your car more than the road' and many more....

But when I start the car... Rev the engine... Take the roof off and look them in the EYE... I know where I want to be....

I think its great to have a sports hatch, hot hatch or some other Chav mobile following. eating the noise and staring at my FORD ESCORT lights wishing they had a TVR....

Cheers Kentish, Someone with good taste. Just thought i would post a picture of how bad it looked halfway through.

Had to do a full backend respray to have it match in. Still got the front end to do yet, gonna try and mould in some headlight covers in clear plastic. Grff style. Not sure about doing another one as wife thinks i live in the garage too much now.

They are nice and certainly unique. Rear light design can certainly make or break the appearance of a car.

Your a brave man TOPTON !!!
A lot of work and a lot of patience, but it evidently paid off with a very smart finished result.
You must have had some awsome big holes half way through!

Kentish,

Interesting idea for the front end. Would you also take the opportunity to remove the rubber bumpers or would you leave as is.

I feel a grill at the front of the lower air intake would improve the look. It would create a fuller llok.

Topton,

Nice job. I saw those lights at the kit car show but was nsure how they would look on the S. Not cheap either.

With all the discussion on modifying I was wondering. With most classics, standard vehicles always fetch better money. By modifying, are we reducing the value. Or are S buyers not as fickle??

I wonder if any analysis has been done on sale prices for non standard cars.
