TV adverts for speeding drivers
A television commercial encouraging fast drivers to slow down is being launched across the East.
The "See More-Slow Down" ad, from Northants Safety Camera Partnership, will be shown in Suffolk, Beds, Luton, Herts, Norfolk, Cambs and Essex.

The new commercial will run across the region, beginning from Monday evening.

Police spokesman Don Powell said: "In the Eastern region alone, an average of 12 people are killed or seriously injured on our roads every day."

He added: "Our only aim is to drive down the number of casualties on our roads.

"The TV advert emphasises safety cameras are there to encourage motorists to slow down, not to catch them out."

Do you think people would have a worse or better view of the Police if the tag line said:

'Britain, safest roads in Europe by quite some margin'

At the end of these adverts?

I've got a mate called Seymour, I reckon he will feel victimised especially as he doesn't drive particularly quickly.

I don't get the slogan "See more-slow down", what point is it making? More observation or simply slow down and enjoy the scenery?

Don't really see how it's the fault of the police, one way or another...

The police don't make people exceed the limit, drive dangerously, without care etc etc..

Did I say it was the fault of the police?

You are ultimately the ones who get it in the neck though arent you?

Using the media to scare people is a very very dangerous thing. Perhaps if the media praised the British for having such safe roads the public would have a more responsible outlook towards road safety?

That number has only been quoted for shock value, it has nothing whatsoever to do with deaths caused by speeding drivers.

I'd suggest the following would be more accurate:

"0.84 peoples lives could be saved everyday if we can stop a small minority of the population driving like arseholes"

If you're a slack jawed yokel who doesn't have any mental stimuli perhaps..

At 30mph and above there is enough information and planning to keep one awake.....

Well on the basis the last time I drove up the M4 at exactly 70 mph I nearly did fall asleep, perhaps I should update my profile on PH.

On a connected note recently in Europe I was covering upto 700 miles a day, ignoring speed limits and driving according to conditions and felt absolutely fine.

If its Essex it should be:
SLOW DOWN! & the little buggers will have your wheels off and your car on blocks before you've had the chance to say Fackinell!!

Ive seen the police do this scores of times, when a panda car is driving right up someones arse, especially on an urban road. The pressure can make people do stupid things, brake tests, drive not at 31/2/3/ but at 40 odd.

Ive also seen a lot of what I would describe as entrapment by the police, especially in high powered cars, Golf gti's/vr6's, scoobys ect. The police drive an inch from the bumper in an attempt to get you to put your boot down. Had it done to me a couple of times, and although im not 100% certain it was old bill, it was pretty likely from what I saw.

Not to mention the golf VR6 I saw once in Essex giving it some large at some traffic lights with a Laxo chav mobile next to him. He was revving it up and giving it the old lets have a "bit of sport" vibe, riding the clutch ect. Of course Mr.Laxo went for the bait and was pulled up further on by the golf which now resembled a rather flashing flashy thing.

Not all cops do this, even less so the good BIB's here, but ive seen it done more times to put it down to a few bad apples.

This is yet another example of a group simplifying the whole matter by effectively saying "...slow down and you won't crash..." or "...slow down just in case you crash..."

...and enforcing this they'll just antagonise yet more people.

ALl the time they associate slowing down with being safer, the casualty figures will not improve and will probably continue the steady rise since cameras were introduced.

What's wromg with signs warning of, for example, road narrows ahead, advisory speed limits on particular corners, sharp bend ahead and so on.

These warning signs, in place for over 50 years, which don't dumb down the driver (as do blanket too low speed limits which no-one respects) seem to be disappearing.
