I'm just about to embark on my first service of my V6 S3 and want to change a few bits and pieces as I go along.

Where is the best place for parts, or is it a case of buying what you can from where you can?

Apart from the usual oil and filter, I'm looking to replace the following:-

Water pump
Both cooling systems caps
Rear wheel bearings.

How often should the fuel filter be changed?

I've been looking on ML Performance website and they seem to have everything I need listed on there, but you can't buy online and I'm not sure how up to date their website is.

I'd rather buy good quality parts so I'm tending not to bother with eBay.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Andy

Engine and running gear are both Ford. There are a couple of sites with a list of the original sources and known alternatives for these cars - search for "tvr s series parts list".

An NGK spark plug is an NGK spark plug, whether it comes from Ebay or wherever (imho)?

Got to agree with Mike on this, lots of very reputable companies and knowledgeable good businesses, now have ebay shops. Just buy sensibly and check feedback etc....without ebay mine wouldnt be on the road.

Although after speaking to some biker chums on Wednesday, it would appear NGK have a bit of an issue with counterfeit items that fail early.

Given most of the service and mechanical bits on the S are Ford you do not have to use a TVR specialist. Inevitably there are some bits that are TVR specific, or hard to source.

I have always found my local car parts shops to be very helpful and often slightly cheaper than ebay, and a lot cheaper than the TVR specialists. Parkers 'The Parts People', several branches based around Leicester, Notts and Newark. I am sure most large towns have good parts suppliers.

It really depends on how much effort you are prepared to make. If you want an easy time, ring up one of the well know TVR Specialists and get them to supply what you need. However, I love a bargain and I use the forums and the TVR Alternative parts list to get as many cross referenced part numbers as I can and then go in to Parkers with that list. Once you get chatting to them about the TVR they seem very keen to help you source the bits for it, and even help with the occasions when I turn up with a part in an oily rag and say 'no idea what its from, but I need another one'.

There is a lot to be said for using the local suppliers where possible, as they are the ones that will have the bit you need urgently over a weekend or late in the day. If you do not use them regularly they will not be around when you need them.

If you do end up using MLP, they used to offer a TVRCC discount. Used them myself to get the steering column bearing kit, and their service is pretty good.
