It's not very "PH", but for various reasons I need a small, cheap to run car for the next 6-12 months which might get passed on to the OH depending on her job. I've always had a soft spot for the VW Up, and saw this "High Up" at auction a few weeks ago. It is absolutely spotless, one owner, full VW history (serviced 100 miles ago) with a high spec for a small car (Maps and Go sat nav and bluetooth, heated seats/mirrors, cruise control, bluemotion stop/start, a/c/ parking sensors). The only issue is a suspected noisy clutch release bearing which I am still trying to diagnose. It does 50mpg, zero road tax, so will cheap to run.

and thats whats wrong with so many people on here
I really like these cars.... they are so well designed. so well thought through in so many areas. My fave is the Skoda one, then this one and then the seat one.
i can't wait to see where the designers can take them as they diverge (as the C1, pug 107, toyota aygo have)
back to your car.... great colour, great look, great economy and as said, as a design its pretty close to perfect and that has to be admired by people that understand cars properly

enjoy

Rattling noise from engine bay at idle vehicles fitted with 02S 5 speed manual gearbox (UK TPI) Release date: 05-Dec-2012 Technical product information Transaction No.: 2032109/1
Customer statement / workshop findings
Rattling noise from the engine bay area with the engine running at idle.
Technical background
Neutral gear rollover noise describes the condition whereby a rattling noise from the constant mesh gearing in the transmission is heard while the engine idles with the clutch engaged (pedal released).
It is caused by engine torsional vibration and is particularly prevalent on vehicles with a single mass flywheel and low idle speed requirements. The intensity of neutral gear rollover noise will increase with transmission temperature and / or an increase of torque loading, for example air conditioning or heated rear window activation.
The rollover noise is inherent to transmission design and will disappear when a gear is selected and the vehicle is driven. The noise is not detrimental to the transmission or engine components and does not constitute a manufacturing defect.
Production change
None.
Measure
When evaluating transmission complaints please draw on the statements above when assessing the complaint, remembering to account for engine refinement, gear selection “feel”, and clutch operation.
Warranty accounting instructions
Normal warranty guidelines apply.
Parts information
No parts information.
Customer information
Neutral gear rollover noise will not negatively affect the longevity or performance of the vehicle. It is concept related and does not constitute a manufacturing defect.

I like these little cars, although i might have a Seat or Skoda rather then the VW version myself.. And it is a bit of a shame it doesnt come with the 110hp TSI unit in a sport/gti version, should be a big laugh.
Honestly, given how the new aygo looks and what renault have done with the Twingo, i think the Up!/Mii/Citigo is my current favorite A-segment car.

Thanks, I read that when I was researching the Up forum, but I only get the noise when the clutch is disengaged (pedal depressed) so I am not sure it is the cause. It also doesn't make the noise unless you increase the revs beyond idle (with clutch depressed).Customer statement / workshop findings

What's it like to press on in OP?
Not great to be honest, the lack of power takes a bit of getting used and you need to adjust your driving style accordingly, especially overtaking in the 40-60 range). It is a pleasant enough place to sit, the visibility is great and the steering is crisp and light.I like to do spreadsheet/man-maths on car costs (the OH thinks I'm mad), but the UP works out at seriously cheap motoring. I've included everything - depreciation - (auction bought and if I sell it will be private), MOT, servicing, tyres, insurance etc, which works out at £120 per month. Part of my work involves a car allowance (45p per mile - average 300 miles per month), so when I take into account fuel costs (10ppm), the car costs £15 per month.
