The Playstation Generation?

Had a great afternoon in the garden with a few friends and our neighbours. Why is this relevant here? Well, our neighbours have 2 young sons, 6 and 9. The 9 year old I discovered is car mad. I didn't know. We had a great discussion about his favourite car the Bugatti Veyron, and yes, he did know how many radiators it has.
Eventually he plucked up the courage to ask me if he could have a look at my car. He knew it was a Porsche but little else.
He asked me a million questions about it and quickly fell in love. He eventually totally got the fundamentals of the 911.
I started it up for him and I saw his eyes glaze over.
Its easy to think that we are living in a digital age and the young generation are more interested in a virtual world, but no. Not all of them.
I truly believe that mechanical engineering will continue to inspire all and maybe, just maybe, the playstation generation will move on to more real things.
