My new Giro Atmos lid has really long straps, and when adjusted so it fits properly the 'tail' flaps around and makes a lot of noise. I was going to trim them down so there's still an inch or two of extra but enough that can be retained properly and not fly around freely.

Any reason why I shouldn't do this?

No issues trimming the excess off.

I did mine. You might want to run a flame over the cut ends to stop them from fraying.

Great, that's what I was thinking so I will get onto removing the annoying flappy ends tonight.

As above, a flame to stop the ends fraying and then fold 5mm or so over on the end and glue down.
