Replacement Service History - VIL ?
Discussion
Bought my 997 GTS a couple of months ago from an OPC. When I went to pick the car up the OPC told me they'd lost the original service history...I didn't see it either when I went to test drive the car as it was "in the post" from the dealer in their network that had actually bought the car.
Two months later I have now received the service book with a hand written VIN number and stamp with "REPLACEMENT" across the page. So I have no official record of the spec of the car as delivered from the factory, engine no's etc. Apparently Vehicle Identification Label's cannot be reproduced (VIL's) that would normally be in the service book ?
Anyone know if it is possible to get an official VIL?
Told the OPC they need to come up with a solution.....

Unfortunately you can't get VILs reprinted from Porsche or another (original) service book without the 'Replacement' stamp.
If you bought the car expecting the original book then they should be bending over backwards to help. If not then insist on seeing the Dealer Principal. They know how important history is on these cars.
The OPC should be able to get you a 'Letter of Origin' from Porsche GB which has the VIN number, manufacture date and options etc. They should also provide details of all the OPC service records for you (you won't get invoices but date, mileage and job number is enough). This would allow you to rebuild the service book. OPCs and specialists are normally happy to restamp your new book for the old services if you have details e.g. invoices or the records from Porsche.

Hi, yes I did buy the car expecting it. The car was traded in to another part of their dealer group (non OPC), the car arrived at the OPC on a Friday and I test drove it on the Saturday and did the deal. The cars paperwork was sent by the dealer who traded it in separately. The car was actually originally suppplied by the OPC I bought it from and they have done both services on it too.
The OPC wanted to complete the sale before the end of Feb but I couldn't pick it up until the second week of March. So the car was bought and paid for in February and when I picked it up ten days later I was told they'd lost the service book!
I am not going to tell you what they suggested yesterday but it's a long way from supplying official documentation/certification.....

If you've done all the reasonable stuff then you do have consumer protection even after taking delivery of the car.
You could threaten returning it saying that the history was misrepresented. You may not want to go through with this ultimately but if they are dragging their feet or ignoring you this should gee them up!

Yeah I really don't want to do that though as I love the car and they aren't easy to find (Manual 997 GTS that's not white or black!). I don't want money either I just want the blinking correct docs! You could threaten returning it saying that the history was misrepresented. I can understand that. Unless you can get them to find yhe original book then the best you can do is get the COA, letter of origin and the replacement book restamped. Aldo get them to write a letter stating that the book was lost by the OPC and they supplied the replacement to help explain the history in future.
