What crankset for a 90's MTB?
Discussion
I'm a few parts short of being to finish a 90's Diamondback. Off the top of my head a pair of grips, some brake cantilevers and a seat post. And a crankset.
Before I consigned my shagged old frame to the scrap on Saturday I scavenged everything I could but could not shift the cranks.
I've seen a few on eBay by searching "90's Deore MTB cranks" but assume I could fit any brand - are there any specific fitments I should be aware of?
Thanks.

It's a great site with a wealth of knowledge.
The only problem is that you'll start off looking for some Shimano Deore Cranks and end up wanting some Middleburn stuff, then wanting to change your bottom bracket to a Chris King one. Then get a Paul components rear derailleur...
All period correct NOS of course...

Cook Bros in purple or Bullseye for me.
This thread has reminded me how gutted I was to have my Alipiestars ALMega XT nicked in the early 90's. It had Cook Brothers CBR cranks, an ultagra short cage mech, practically the first Tioga T-bone stem in the UK, Profile 1 aero bars! and the original sella italia flight. Not to mention trick (for the time) mavic wheels and a stupidly delicate set of aluminium bolts for everything. That bike weighed almost nothing.
I'm still sad

I did up an 8 speed 90's Raleigh mtb that Ive since ridden all round Europe with a tent.
I bought a Shimano Alivio crankset FC-M410...it was £18 from Rose and had great reviews, stuck on a new BB UN 55 bottom bracket for £10....I had to buy a new front mech as well .
All bombproof and still going strong.
