Beware of the space saver.

I am posting this on here and although it applies to my Chimaera it could apply to other models. My car is a 97 with the space saver tyre fitted in the middle of the boot. On removing the tyre, I found behind it the bag containg the jack and wheel brace. As the tyre has moved about within the holding straps it has caused the bag to rub through the carpet and into the petrol tank. Caught it just in time I hope.
Perhaps this is not the normal place to put the bag, and the previous owner was just being tidy, anyway it may save grief for other owners.

Mine is mounted on the drivers side of the boot and has a rubber strap to hold it firmly in place, sounds like yours is in the wrong place.

If the wheel is in the middle, doesn't it get in the way of the roof panel? Mine was also on the drivers side, but never carry it normally, only a can of tyreweld stuff..

My 94 car had the wheel strap fitted on the right, but this new 97 car has two straps fitted in the middle. Hence the reason I was removing it I assume it will get in the way. I always carry the tyre weld.

Graham, The newer TVRs don't even have a spare at all and even my Smart has no spare. Just go with a couple of Tyre weld cans as one may not work, and you will more than likely have AA or RAC any way. You will then have a big boot and no chance of the tyre doing any damage and if you had ever run on a space saver you would not do it again. (i won't)

Thats another reason I was taking it out, used one on the M20, never again.
