I did have a couple of questions:
- What is the easiest ways to identify an LCI car? Am I right these started delivering late 2013?
- DCT appears to be very reliable by reputation - is there a way to measure clutch wear or identify a car with a launch control happy history?
- Any weak points or common issues to be aware of?
Front (and rear lights I think) changed but you could probably only tell being close up (for the rear in particular). iDrive controller has the big touchpad and the screen has silver bits on side framing it. Front grills could be retrofitted easily enough I think and possibly steering wheel as well. Some FLs may have pre-FL grills if they wanted them all black.
As far as I'm aware the changes to the LCI were as follows (and mine is an LCI):
New iDrive controller allowing written commands (by letter and I've used it once)
New steering wheel which is now pretty much throughout the sport range of BMW's
Probably some inner tweaks that won't be noticed
The car comes well loaded with the following:
Professional Radio
Super-duper Xenon adaptive lights
Full leather/standard sports seats (not to include dash)
Front climate and rear climate control
Auto lights/wipers
Cruise etc.
Sunroof (although this is a no cost delete option)
Full professional nav + Bluetooth integration
Common upgrades are:
20" wheels
Reverse camera which is sometimes upgraded to surround camera
M Multifunction seats (I don't have these and can't comment)
Sun-protection glass
Additional power for phones etc.
Folding and split seats
Upgraded ICE
You can also have a huge number of additional features (soft-close doors etc., comfort access etc.)
To be honest they're pretty good out of the box but a few features make it that little bit better.
30,000 miles on mine and aside from a few issues when it was delivered the main problem for me has been the rear light clusters on the boot section which keeps breaking their little tabs that hold it in place. I suspect the mounting screws are being secured too tightly and applying pressure to the light fitting and cracking the plastic.
Mine goes in a few months and I'll have mixed feelings. It's a great, great machine however it's way too easy to pick up serious speed in not many yards from standstill!
