Dim dip question

I did ask this in General Gassing but didn't get a reply.....

Does anyone know the dates (earliest and latest) of cars this wonderful invention was fitted to? Does a May 1990 car fall outside these dates (ie: didn't have it fitted)?

When it was actually fitted will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, probably even from model to model.
It was a legal requirement for everything first registered from 1/4/87, unless the sidelights were sufficiently bright to not need DD.
When it was finally put out of its misery is a bit less clear, but it was definitely gone by 1996, when the type-approval rules were effectively standardised across the EU.

1990 would be slap-bang in the middle of required. But that doesn't mean it has to still be fitted or work...

Required from 1st April 1987.

A vehicle without dim-dip is permitted by the The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989, which came into force on 1st November 1989, if the vehicle's lighting matches EC requirements.
