Quick Wedge shaped question........Please

Fantastic car my dad owned a green 78 3500 just like BEC 484S from 1982 to 1992 had no problems in all that time, fast and powerful and loads of room he was a shopkeeper and we used to fill her up with all the goods we needed from the local cash and carry no problem no need for an estate car, always loved them and i now own a 77 3500 in gold.
Honestly, I quite like them, but I don't think they looked nearly as good as the Triumph saloons and Stag.
I always had a thing for the Stag - just simply beautiful. Shame about the engine.
They should have put the Rover V8 in the Stag, that would have been a world beater, especially if they had put a larger (3.9) in it.
Hell the 2.5PI engine developed as much go as that crap Triumph V8, and it was much better. (OK, fuel injection was crap, but still ...)
Never had an SD1, had a few rides in a 2600 version, seemed OK, but was an auto, so ordinary for performance. Nice ride as I remember....

My dad got one new in 1977 and kept it till 1990 we went very were in it once had 9 people in it. 3 of us sat in the boot imagine that now? They rot like a dog most were not looked after so loads of problems especially electrical. Wouldnt touch a non V8 and prices of good ones are starting to really climb so enough people like them. Me personally think they look great but not sure i would pay what you have to pay to get a really good one.

My Dad has still got his 2600. Just wondering whats wrong with a non V8? It's nearly as quick as the V8 (0 - 60 about 1 sec less) and also makes a geart noise even though it sounds different to the V8. I used to own one of these in yellow back in the day. The car was just a couple of years old and they were the cars to be seen in at the time. The looks were ahead of time as were some of the goodies fitted. Mine was an automatic V8. I have to tell you the car was a big dissapointment. The back shelf used to rattle and the inerior used to creak. A very cheap feel even though they weren't cheap and the ride was awful too. I think the earlier Rover like the P5 was much better and built like a tank whereas these were flimsy compared to the cars of the time such as the jaguar xj6. I have always been a jag fan and owned several xj6 and xj12. They don't make cars like that any more.

My dad at the time worked for BL and the management were offered the xjs as a company car but hardly any of them wanted one because they new how badly made it was and most of them had had a P6 so they opted for the sd1 instead but i remember my dad saying they were poorly build as well. His seemed to spend a lot of time in the first few years being fixed but he loved the V8 and wouldnt change. I wonder were i got it from then. He also had 2 P6 V8s and a vitesse but preferred his auto 3500.
A funny story was he was trying to balance the carbs and was leaning over listening to them in his shirt and tie yes shirt and tie when the fan belt grapped his tie and yanked his head down on to the carbs with him screaming turn the f in thing off quick! which i did then spent a few minutes wetting myself laughing at the stupid sod working on a car in a shirt and tie. Good memories of that car and should try and find out if its still going.

My boyhood dream car. Own one for 22 years now. Only a 6-cylinder and intended to put a RV8 in.

And since owning the wedge the urge to put a V8 in it has disappeared.
Still would like to own a Vandenplas EFI, perhaps some day, but first a P5B. Which is the car that started the whole RV8 story.
The SD1 is now my sons first car and he drives it a couple of hundred km a week without any issues, just normal maintenance.
People stop and stare, take pictures, what to have a chat. So to me it was a cool car back then, but seams it still is. Advantage of timeless design?
Zig, just don't think it is cheaper to run than a wedge! Happy hunting
