Hello all,

I am looking for some advice please.

Recently on a road trip we encountered some really horrible weather, lots of spry and such. The guys behind me commented at our next stop that as soon as some spray got kicked up I disappeared, my lights were completely in effective even when I turned on the rear fog light.

Thast has got me thinking that it really is time to fit some LED bulbs in all the rear lights.

Does anyone have any recommendations for the indicators, stop/tail, reversing light and fog light?

I don't want to dazzle but it would be good to be visible, this trip is not the first time it has been mentioned and I think it really is time to do something about it.

Cheers
Gruff

I tried, problem is getting enough contrast between tail and stop, i have Landrover rear lights, and the reflectors dont seem to work the best with how they work.
I think they project the light into the reflector and bounce it out.

A discreet high level brake light might be an answer??
Anyway the bulbs (ebay, not the cheapest or dearest) lasted about a month, so gave in and put the clockwork bulbs back in.

I can't find the thread, but there was a multi-page epic for the development of either Ferrari 360/430 led tail lights (edit: found it - http://www.ferrarilife.com/forums/modern-v8s-360-f... The company in question was Scud Ing Swiss. I can't find a direct link to their website to their LED tail light bulbs but I bought some more than a year back and have had no issues. Might be worth contacting them

I run LED bulbs / lights alround on my cars.

Not had any issues with not being seen although I've not had any satisfactory 'dual filament' LEDs so continue to use standard bulbs in the brake/tail on the Reserve.

I have fitted both the Reserve and Samy with a mk1 Audi TT cabriolet third brake light.

Can't remember what rear lights are on your Cerb.

Generally, I use coloured led bulbs instead of white as the coloured lenses filter out most of the 'white' light. So red, amber and white (reversing).

Plenty of bulbs are available from ebay.

I've used LED stop/tail bulbs for over a decade (where did the time go) with no problems. As mentioned the bulbs should be red in colour output, but any sold for this purpose should be. Much brighter than standard.

We had the discussion after our trip to Belgium last year. I know a Chimeara owner put led bulbs in and said they worked well.

Any specific recommendations? I can see quite a few on e-bay, etc. but would prefer to go with something tried and tested.

I have just ordered these, I will report back when fitted.

380SER-1 380 Twenty20 LED 12V P21/5W Bayonet Bulb
Options: Pack Size:: Single
Colour: Red

RW382LED 382 Ring Premium LED 12V P21W Bayonet Bulbs (Pair)

I have not gone for amber indicators as I thought I would try white first and if no good I can reuse them in the reversing lights of a couple of cars and re order some amber ones.

I also decided not to go cheap after what Brummie said above so went with a reputable supplier with a multi year warrantee.

I'm running a set of Cree LED bulbs in our 3000M. 70s back light were dismal by modern standards and I was worried some muppet wouldn't see me.

The Cree set are similar to these link - can't recall exact spec.

Even in the standard Lucas lights they now look much more like modern car lamps. Very impressed & well worth the money.

These? Let me know how you get on with them. It would be nice to find some that properly work as a dual filament.

Yep, they are the ones, should be with me for the weekend so will report back when they are fitted.

I will probably do one side and post up photos of the tail and brake lights on and the indicators as well so the difference can be seen.

Took me 4 years to decide to fit the DAB aerial, didn't want to spoil the lines.
Took me 7 years to fix the broken wire in the door

If it drives ok, the rest is just a distraction biggrin

initial feed back as the bulbs arrived earlier this morning.

The Ring bulbs fit the bulb holder much better that the brake and tail light bulbs but the brake/tail lights are now noticeably brighter both on tail only and brakes and tails on together.

The indicators seem to flash at the correct rate but I would say buy amber bulbs as it is noticeably less yellow than the original bulbs.

Reliability I cannot vouch for but so far I am happy and should now be visible in bad weather without the lights being too bright.

If the indicators flash too quickly then swap the relay for an LED version.

I went for stop/tail only, fitted them. Initially at 6pm last night there didn't appear to be any difference, but looking again at night the led stop lights are brighter.
