I've just spent a lot of time looking around the web for impressions on the d2x. Seems there are a few out there, most of which are done by nikon fanboys (of which I am one, sort of). The only one i have found that looks slightly credible is this one

www.caborian.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=196&Itemid=64

which is in spanish, there's a dodgy translation here

But frankly you might as well just look at the pretty pics. According to them the d2x is pretty similar to the 1d mkII, and the 1ds mkII beats them both (suprise suprise). the really amazing pics are on page 4, here they compare the noise levels. The 1ds mkII is so good I'm not sure if the examples are real or not?

Looking around the various message boards, the amount of squabbling going on is amusing - half the threads have been shut down by the mods. A lot of the arguments seem to be about standardising the test procedures between different cameras.

Here I will propose the DCW standardised DSLR test©...

Take your two cameras, put a 50mm f/1.4 lens on them (Canon/nikon standard ones), then take the same picture with both cameras. I.e. the same end result - you will have to stand closer with the Nikon in this instance. Then view results at 100%, or if you want to, zoom in the lower res file so they are both the same size (but don't interpolate!). Surely this would give the most representative comparison between the two. Am I missing out on something - why hasn't anyone done this already?

Here's a secret. I don't read reviews. I buy what I like most, then I go and take pictures with it. Saves a lot of angst I think

OK I have just got a D2X.
Totally agree it is the final image that counts how you get there is immaterial.
I have continued down the Nikon route principally cos i have a lot invested in lenses. The quality I have got from my D2H has been to my and clients whether private or magazines satisfaction...that is what counts. The prime reason for getting the D2X is because a new agency I am working for/with requires 30+Mb file sizes, I would not get that with a D2H.

I will let you know how I get on with it

Can you post a few sample images, maybe one at ISO 100,400 and 800?
