Using own oil at OPC?

Hi, I have just arranged for an oil and filter change on my car at the OPC whilst it is there for a warranty renewal and MOT to find out that it is now "policy" that customers can't use their own oil. Must admit this is the first time I have ever tried to use my own oil but as someone gave me 10ltrs of mobil1 I thought why not use it. Is it "policy" just at Dick Lovett OPCs or across the OPC network?

Just to add, I was told that the policy changed in January 2016. I guess this is around the time that the warranty extension to 15 years was allowed........

Its just goes to show that oil is liquid gold for an OPC

Although, I have to say that if you going to pay eye watering labour costs the saving on using your own oil isnt that great

My GT3 was serviced in February by my local OPC using my supplied oil. Only stipulation was that it had to be in sealed containers and not previously opened.

I don't find oil that expensive at the OPC after discounts, Think I paid £85 all in for oil ,it's the labour rates which kill you.
buy oil at Halfords and you need 1 big 5l and 2 small 1l bottles it's ni on as much !

Classic rate at OPC is much cheaper than all the indies.

I normally have an annual oil and filter change done at OPC, for various reasons this is the first year I'd have had to pay for it. £300, which wasn't unexpected. One of the reputable indies here in the North charged me £125 all in using OEM filter and Mobil 1.

I supplied millers nanotech to my indie not that long after the opc serviced my car on advice from Hartech and fitted the low temp thermostat at the same time..

I supplied my own oil at the last service the OPC wasn't keen and OK'd just for this time, when re-calculating the cost of the service minus the oil at their rate it was £140 cheaper so £140 for less than eight litres of oil...rip off, I paid £100 for sixteen litres of Mobil One from Halford's so I'll be supplying my own oil at the next service too...can't see them turning away major service for the cost of some oil.

NOthing to do with the price & everything to do with the grade. My Boxster was using 15w/50 rather than the dishwater Mobil 1 they use. And classic Labour rate was £60 + VAT so cheaper than the indies around here.

Yup...under warranty so OPC it is, I'am fully aware of the Porsche added tax and the tick the check box service it gets but £140 for oil they buy in bulk is really having a laugh.

Fixed price servicing, nice loan car, reasonable valet, collection and delivery direct to your office or home etc etc.

So they make a profit!!!!

I'm under warranty so don't have a choice. When I did, I used a local independent and it was cheaper, obviously but I don't have a problem with OPC service pricing, all in all I think it's reasonable value for what you get.

Personally I think it's taking the piss asking the OPC if you can bring your own oil. You wouldn't take your own steak to a restaurant.

There are plenty of restaurants that offer "you catch it, we cook it"...

True......but you can often take your own wine......subject to a charge of course.

Perhaps OPCs should consider a corkin' charge on ones own oil......

What oil would the good folk of PH recommend for my 987.2 S manual with 47k on the clock? I took it straight to an independent specialist to have an oil change after I'd bought it from the OPC, but I didn't request a specifc viscosity.
