Tudor Heritage Black Bay (Dark)
Discussion
I'm looking to treat myself to a new watch to wear on a day-to-day basis and, having not previous been a big fan of "Rolex-style" watches have been attracted to the 'Dark' version of the Tudor Heritage Black Bay.
Is there anything I need to know about this watch compared to similarly priced alternatives? What else would people recommend?

As has already been suggested the coating may not last for ever especially on a day to day watch. Also, from the images released so far, it has possibly the worst bracelet to watch head fit I've seen from a reputable watch producing company in years.

Yeah it's weird how they have not used end links, is there a reason? Did the issued snowflakes have this or something? Also, from the images released so far, it has possibly the worst bracelet to watch head fit I've seen from a reputable watch producing company in years.
I also do not get why they have used PVD coating, DLC is so much nicer or ceramic? Tudor have ceramic cases in the range so why use something that will look scabby in a year or two? I really don't get it.
OP have you seen the bronze Black Bay? I think that could look really cool in the flesh...

Yes - don't like it at all!I also do not get why they have used PVD coating, DLC is so much nicer or ceramic? Tudor have ceramic cases in the range so why use something that will look scabby in a year or two? I really don't get it.

What else should I be looking at around the same price range...?

It looks like it has copied the bracelet of the Black Bay One ... the watch of which only one was made as a one off for an auction for charity. The Tudor Ranger also has this bracelet.I also do not get why they have used PVD coating, DLC is so much nicer or ceramic? What am I missing with the bracelet? It seems the same as the other Heritage models (except it is black) and similar to the Rolex submariner?I'm clearly missing what you are seeing as the issue!

I think it was this picture that got me confused - I thought this was the 'dark' version as the bracelet looks almost black, but on reflection, and based on the comments above, I think it's just the standard, black dial Heritage model, with unusual lighting to make the steel strap appear much darker than it actually is.

The finishing on a UN is amazing IMHO on another level to Tudor.
Or maybe...

I'd certainly consider 2nd hand, but am not keen on either of the above!http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Ulysse%20Nardin/Maxi%...

I'm actually looking at the 2nd hand IWC Aquatimer on Dominic's site, but not sure I like this as much as the Black Bay, even though it's more expensive, albeit possibly better value and likely to retain value better?

The relatively new Tudor Fastrider (black CERAMIC with white hands and markers)
I like the look of the Black Shield versions, but think they are substantially more expensive than the Heritage Black Bay.don logan said:
Black Bay with black bezel? Pelagos? (These 2 are the Tudor high point for me)
Yes, Black Bay is definitely on the shortlist. Pelagos likely to be over budget!don logan said:

Not bad, but probably over budget!Used Bremont Alt 1 ZT

Not so keen on the Speedmaster.
Overall, so far one or other version of the Heritage Black Bay still sppeals most!

Ok, I see what you mean - the bracelet on the normal Heritage models is nicer - maybe just get a black version of this?
If the 'Dark' version is limited edition might this hold value better?
You can get after market end links for the original BB, off the top of my head I can't remember which company makes them. Perhaps they'll start making them for this model. If the 'Dark' version is limited edition might this hold value better?

Any thoughts on the in house movement from Tudor going in the black bay? As mentioned elsewhere I do like the look of the brass version on the antique strap;

But much more fashionable I think is the black bay dark, something that I've quite fancied for a while. My only concern is the steel strap leaves a massive gap around the case-what's all that about?

Obviously it closes up with the optional leather strap but as nice as they look I just don't find leather straps too practical.
The bronze model I'll wait until I try on, it certainly looks interesting in the pictures but I have a sneaky suspicion I'll find it gopping in the flesh. But much more fashionable I think is the black bay dark, something that I've quite fancied for a while.
