Is electronic stock trading now illegal in US/UK?

Got to do a presentation and hand in a report on the various forms of e-commerce tomorrow. Like the arse that i am i've only just started (2000 words minimum) and don't even possess the text book let alone know how to access the library. So anyway i just wanted to know the above so i can slip it in with my small piece about computer programs being a possible consequence of black monday. I'm fairly sure it is in the UK at least but a google search revealed nothing.

Actually I think you'll find it is the norm and you need to go to some of the far east markets eg Taiwan to find the human factor.

Sorry what i meant was automated trading - as in the computer is set to sell/buy at a certain price. I was fairly sure that this is illegal and there needs to be a physical person to press a button on a computer to sell?
