Before I talk to my OPC tomorrow has anyone experienced this. Drove mine in fairly heavy rain for the first time on a motorway run, came off the motorway and drove for about a mile then into a car park, had to use the lift to get over a speed bump. Swung round in the car park to park and had clouds of steam come out from the front !! By the time I had parked up it had stopped , water temp etc was ok . Drove back later in the dry and all was fine ...... Any thoughts ?

Had it happen once myself after a bad storm in Germany. Had forgotten that one!...nothing has shown up is subsequent inspections though.

Every water cooled Porsche does this to some extent.

Water gets splashed onto either a hot brake disc or a radiator and creates a cloud ---

It doesn't have to boil, it just has to generate a super saturated vapour ...

My GT2 does this after driving in heavy rain then into stop start traffic. I always assumed it was just the rain water inside the PU getting boiled by the rad as it gets hotter in slow traffic.

OPC will probably replace the engine just to be safe.

Thanks for the replies. My 6.2 GT 3 never did this , but if that's what they do sir then I won't look so embarrassed next time 😀

Don't bother going to OPC, when rain falls due to the vents at the front water runs onto the rads and steam will appear especially if the engine gets to the hotter temp range.
All is good!!

+1 all the GT cars with front vents do this - 997, GT4, etc

However, I find the 996 RS does not as the front vents do not have an area for water to collect.
...in a 996.2 GT3 without the front vent mod you won't get this at all...if it happens then call the OPC! smile

The 991 GT3 RS does this a lot. After a wash you get veritable steam engine vapour coming out of the front vents once you take it for a drive. That is also the reason why you need to drive the car after a wash as otherwise too much water collects in wrong places.

This does not happen on 991 GTS's, happy to swap if it's becoming an issue wink

The cooling air through the side radiators is vented through the wheel arch, the exits to the rads is in front of the front wheels, so if you go backwards, water can splash into the difusor behind the rads leading to steam venting out of the arches or the top vent - especially at certain steering angles. Nothing to worry about.

My RS does not arrive till July but my 991 GT3 did this all the time if wet. It was like someone boiling a kettle under the front of the car.

Normal, my 991 gt3 does it after washing or in rain, bit embarrassing in slow moving traffic though
