I have just acquired an 2010 A6 Avant Quattro Tiptronic but I am concerned with the gearbox. I find in various situations in particular at lower speeds the shifts or whatever it is doing can be quite noticeable and a bit clunky. Most of the time it is silky smooth, which makes the occasional bump very annoying, reminiscent of a failing mechatronics in a DSG.

Are these boxes supposed to be 100% smooth all the time? car has done 70k. Thanks

I had an A6 3.0 TDI Q for 2 years and the box was 100%.

They are hugely reliable....according to the internet.

Oil change at 70k is recommend by ZF iirc.

Dis 118k miles in mine without changing the oil. Gearchange on the day I sold it was as good as it was on the day it was delivered with 3 miles on the clock.

Generally very good, could sometimes got a bit confused or jerky approaching a roundabout when it has just changed down to first as you need to pull away without actually stopping

I had the same issues with a tiptronic and it was the hydraulic oil level as there was a small leak. Had the oil changed and it is now good as gold. The oil change was not cheap though!

Thanks,

I took it to an indie gearbox specialist for piece of mind and they did a diagnostic test drive and reset the adaptations, said it was working perfectly. I must admit it has been alot better since and only does what I would call noticable shifts in heavy traffic during light throttle situations.

Was quoted £290+vat for an oil change which I will do at some point as it seems a good precaution against future wear.
