Hey guys

I've just picked up my car today and realized I never asked and never thought about until driving it, if it had DAB.
It does not.

Rather annoying. Now I've searched this forum and found 4 threads chatting about when it became standard and the change in regulations and various other things. But no thread actually offering a good retro fit device.

Has anyone used anything or would anyone recommend anything?
There's a few DAB units on eBay but would prefer some advice from other owners here.

Rather than ripping anything out I would consider a Dab receiver which can Bluetooth through your phone

I didn't look for it but my 981 came with DAB. Can't figure out what's so good about it?

Can anyone enlighten me? I find it no different to FM, other than DAB occasionally loses the signal for 5-10 seconds.

The advantage is that DAB stations aren't just local to where you are. Plus the standard national stations e.g. radio 1, 2, 3 etc

The disadvantages are:

1. it needs a good signal
2. lots of stations are in mono and a fairly low bitrate (e.g. radio5live, PlanetRock)

Sadly DAB hasn't taken off in a big way and has turned out to be disappointing in that the quality isn't what it was hailed as being when it launched (over ten years ago).

The future is probably internet streaming radio when 4G and 'no monthly limit' mobile data becomes more commonplace.

So this receives a digital signal then sends it to your radio receiver via an fm signal, which you listen to on a fm signal? Perhaps I've read it wrong but it has the "chocolate fire guard"about it.

If you want to listen to DAB only stations (6 Music is good), then it's handy. But I found the quality between FM and DAB in a car is marginal.

I just use an app on my phone and stream it over bluetooth audio, marginally worse than the DAB module I had in the last Porsche, but good enough for no cost.

Just touch the icon for the station, there are three pages of them......

Great post this is how radio will go DAB won't ake the long run its been a shales of a room out 85% of as in Europe don't have digital, but 3G or 4G makes much better sense in using for a Radio , just make sure you have unlimited data
